12 civilians injured in grenade attack at Sunday market Srinagar

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least 12 civilians were injured in a grenade attack at Sunday market in Srinagar on Sunday.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 02:10 pm when militants lobbed a hand grenade on security forces deployment near a crowded Sunday market which missed the target and exploded on the road, resulting in injuries to 12 civilians among them, one lady is seriously injured.

The injured civilians were rushed to SMHS Hospital for treatment, and their condition is said to be stable.

The injured persons have been identified as Misbah, daughter of Mohammad Amin Tantray of Nowgam, Azaan Kaloo, son of Javaid Ahmad Kaloo of Noorbagh, Habibullah Rather, son of Abdul Jabbar of Kaloosa Bandipora, Altaf Ahmad Seer, son of Abdul Rashid of Amshipora Shopian, Faizal Ahmad, son of Fayaz Ahmad Baig of Khanyar, Uzer Farooq Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat of Pattan, Faizan Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi of Pampore, Zahid Wani, son of Gulzar Ahmad Wani of Checkpora Kalan Nowgam, Ghulam Muhammad Sofi, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Chattabal and Sumaiya Jan, Wife of Zubair Ahmad Lone of Naidkhai Sumbal.

Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the area to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police has taken cognizance of this incident and registered a Case FIR No. 66/2024 under sections of 16 UAP Act, 109, 115(2) BNS and 3/4 of Explosives Substances Act in Police Station Kothibagh and investigation has been set into motion.

Later, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat visited SMHS Hospital to enquire about the well being of the persons injured in Sunday market grenade attack and asked hospital authorities to ensure all medical facilities to them. — (KIMS)
