SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized 33 vehicles used for illegal mining in Budgam district of Central Kashmir on Tuesday.
The police have also arrested nine persons involved in the illegal extraction/transportation of minerals, and registered six FIR’s in different police stations of the district in the month of November and December, 2024.
“In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, Budgam Police has seized 33 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals which includes ’14 Tractors, 18 Tippers and 01 LNT’ 09 persons were also arrested who were involved in the illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals in the month of Nov-24 & Dec-2024. Further, 06 FIRs got registered at police stations of Magam, Beerwah and Khansahib in the district,” police said in a statement.
“This proactive approach to curb illegal mining has been actively taken up by all the Police stations of District Budgam along with the Mineral Department, Budgam Police realised fines to the tune of lakhs of rupees against illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals,” the statement said.
“Budgam Police is committed to act tough against these violators,” the statement added.
Police have requested community members to come forward with any information regarding illegal mining activities in their neighbourhood. Budgam Police assures strict action against the violators as per law. — (KIMS)
