J&K Cops to ensure ‘smooth’ polls in Punjab

SRINAGAR — Considered as the country’s finest and decorated forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police has been tasked to ensure peaceful Assembly elections in neighboring Punjab state that set to go for polls on February 20.

As per police spokesman of district Kathua, a district that shares a long border with Punjab as well as International Border with Pakistan, the SSP Kathua reviewed the security at a high level joint meeting ahead of forthcoming “Republic Day-2022” celebrations and “Assembly Elections” in Punjab.

“Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua R C Kotwal chaired the meeting where officers from Army, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force and different wings of intelligence agencies were present,” he said, adding that as “counter-insurgency expert, Jammu and Kashmir police has got the responsibility to keep a tap on any subversive activities.”

During the meeting, the spokesman said that the SSP directed the participants to strengthen the Border security grid and National Highway Grid for peaceful conduct of forthcoming Republic Day.

“The top security officials also directed to enhance patrolling and strengthen inter-state nakas for peaceful conduct of Assembly Elections in adjoining state Punjab,” the spokesman said, adding that “the meeting also held deliberations on enhancing patrolling and area domination to rule out any subversive activities.”

Moreover participants were also requested to depute apple manpower in Anti Tunneling exercise along the International Border, which are being conducted regularly and monitoring of Drones activities especially in the Border area.

SSP Kathua also stressed upon the Police officers to implement new Guidelines/SOP’s of COVID Appropriate Behavior (CAB). — (KNO)
