Local mlitant slain in Pulwama encounter

PULWAMA — A local militant was killed in an encounter between government forces and militants at Nambal village of Awantipora in Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Monday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in Nambal village of Awantipora following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter, one local militant was killed and he has been identified as Irfan Ahmad Sheikh (19), son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh from Karimabad Pulwama. He was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT/TRF.

Irfan was missing since  17th January, 2022.

Police in a statement said, the killed militant was a categorized militant and was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. Besides, he was also providing logistic and other support to the active terrorists operating in the area before joining the terror ranks.

Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 Pistol was recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation, the statement added. — (KIMS)
