Two local militants killed in Tral encounter

TRAL — Two local militants were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Arigam village in Tral town of Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Wednesday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Arigam village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter two local militants were killed and they have been identified Shafat Muzaffar Sofi @ Muavia, son of Muzaffar Ahmad Sofi from Batagund Tral, affiliated with Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) and Umer Nabi Teli @ Talha, son of Ghulam Nabi Teli from Ladhoo Khrew, affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT).

As per police records both were categorized militants.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “The two slain in Tral encounter were operating in Srinagar. After civilian and soft target killing, they shifted to Tral area and were tracked and killed”. — (KIMS)
