LeT militant killed in Anantnag encounter, managed to flee in Kulgam

SRINAGAR — A Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter between government forces and militants at Sirhama village in Anantnag district while as militants managed to flee from encounter site in Checki Samad village in Damhal Hanjipora area in Kulgam district in Southern Kashmir after brief exchange of fire.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Sirhama village in Anantnag district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area. Similar operation was launched by joint team of forces in Checki Samad village in Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In Srihama Anantnag operation Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) Commander Nisar Ahmad Dar from Redwani Bala Kulgam was killed.

Two soldiers identified as Rohit Yadav and Ankesh Kumar were injured during exchange of fire in Kulgam encounter. Both were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “The militant killed in Sirhama Anantnag was active since May 2021. He was involved in several cases and killings in the area”. — (KIMS)
