KULGAM — Two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Nawapora, Mir Bazar area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Nawapora, Mir Bazar area of Kulgam district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Yasir Wani from Wangund, Kulgam and Raees Manzoor from Chotipora, Shopian.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle and one pistol were recovered from the site of encounter.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “Both the killed militants have been identified as categorised local militants of proscribed militant outfit LeT. Again an important encounter as the operation site was very close to NHW (Yatra route).” — (KIMS)
