SRINAGAR — One policeman was killed and two others were injured in a militant attack at Lal Bazar area of Srinagar city on Tuesday evening.
Reports said militants fired upon police naka party at Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Tuesday leaving three policemen injured. The trio were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Among them, one policeman identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mushtaq Ahmad succumbed while as two other policemen identified as Head Constable and SPO are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off by government forces to nab the attackers.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that they were analysing the CCTV footage of the attack site, where a police ASI was killed and two other policemen were injured.
He said that since today was the 3rd day of Eid al-Adha, so there was huge rush of families and in order to regulate the rush a naka of small team of police was laid in the area.
“The make team consisted of ASI and two other policemen, so militants took advantage of that and fired indiscriminately upon the naka party, in which one ASI was killed and two other policemen got injured,” he said.
He said that the two policemen who got injured in the attack were stable and were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
He added that they were analysing the CCTV footage to ascertain who carried out the attack and the militants involved in the act will soon be neutralised. — (KIMS)
