Army organised Volleyball tournament in Panzgam Kupwara

KUPWARA — Kupwara district was one of the initial militancy affected district three decades back When few people with bad intentions across the border instigated Kashmiri people to gain their political benefits.

Since then Kupwara District was struggling in overall development and employment for the youth as they were being drugged into business of bloodshed and drugs.

Over a period of time armed forces deployed in this area have worked dedicatedly for the locals to improve their living conditions and providing them skills for the employment.

It is an imperative job to keep the youth engaged in positive activities such like sports activities and learning various skills for the employment. Indian Army has been taking such initiative in the remote areas of Kashmir.

Keeping in the view, Army camp Panzgam has organised a inter village volleyball league tournament to celebrate National Sports Day. League matches had begun on 29 Aug 2022 wherein total of 14 teams participated from villages of Melyal and Kralpura block.

The young determined boys displayed their skills and left no stone unturned to win every single match. It was a tough fight between all the teams from first round. Tournament final was conducted on 31 Aug 2022 between Gulgulosa and Lunahare.

Deserving and outstanding performance by Lunahare team stood out first overall and Gulguosa team lifted the trophy of runner up. Both 1st and 2nd position teams were awarded with trophies.

The tournament withness a overwhelmed response from the locals, encouraged their village team by cheering up.

On being asked from one of the team player Mudasir r/o Lonahare, 12 th class Arts student that how these tournaments are playing an important role, he stated that “because of such tournaments they are not only able to maintain their physical and mental health but also they are learning values like team spirit and leadership skills and they are very thankful to Army for organising such events to encourage the youth”.
