Mehbooba Mufti lashes out at BJP for freeing rapists, conmen

SRINAGAR — People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday lashed out at Central led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for freeing rapists and conmen and not allowing others to go abroad.

She said that not allowing people like Sanna Mattoo, Aakar Patel, Aakash Hassan and Rana Ayub to go abroad and freeing rapists and conmen refering to the release of 11 men convicted in gang rape of Bilkis Bano and murder of her 3-year-old child shows BJPs mindset and points towards their concept of of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’.

The former chief minister in a tweet said, “Freeing rapists & conmen but not allowing people like Sanna Mattoo, Aakar Patel, Aakash Hassan & Rana Ayub to go abroad shows BJPs mindset & points towards their concept of of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’.”

Mehbooba’s remarks came after authorities stopped Pulitzer prize-winning Kashmiri journalist Sanna Irshad Mattoo at New Delhi airport from traveling to United States and outrage over release of convicts in Bilkis Bano gang rape case.

The United Nations State Department said they are aware of the reports and are closely tracking the case of Kashmiri journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Sanna Irshad Mattoo.

The State Department called for respect for press freedom in India. — (KIMS)
