SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that it along with Army’s 9 RR busted a module of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Kulgam district of South Kashmir and arrested six associates of the militant outfit and also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession.
According to statement by Kulgam Police, on the basis of specific information regarding carrying out of subversive activities in Mirhama and Damhal Hanjipora area of district Kulgam, a major breakthrough was achieved by the arrest of six militant associates in joint operation of Kulgam Police and 9 RR and huge cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered on the instance of the accused.
The arrested persons have been arrested as Shahid Ahmad Padder @ Jeela S/o Ghulam Ahmad Padder, Ubaid Ahmad Itoo S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo and Aabid Mushtaq @ Raju S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Naik, all residents of Mirhama, Danish Ahmad Dar S/o Azad Ahmad Dar R/o DH Pora, Nawaz Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Abdullah Ganie R/o Dangerpora and Kifayat Ahmad Lone @ Rinku S/o Mohd Maqbool Lone R/o Mohammadpora.
The statement said that huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered on the instance of accused include 1 Pistol, 1 Pistol Magazine, 18 Pistol Rounds, 1 Hand Grenade, 4 UBGL Shells, 2 Mortar Shells, AK 47 1 Magazine, AK 47 30 Rounds, M4 446 Rounds, M4 8 Magazines, 1 Insas Magazine, 1 Wireless Set, 4 Walky Talky and other incriminating materials.
During preliminary investigation it surfaced that the militant were affiliated with the proscribed militant outfit JeM and were in touch with militant handlers across via various social media platforms, the statement said.
The arrested accused were hell bent to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in district Kulgam by way of carrying grenade attacks, intimidating innocent civilians, standoff fire attacks on PRI members, minority communities etc, the statement added.
In this connection, a case with FIR No. 01/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station DH Pora. Further investigation of the case is in progress to expose the broader conspiracy, reads the statement. — (KIMS)
