AAC organises event to commemorate martyrs of Badr, 56th death anniversary of Muhajir-e-Millat

SRINAGAR — On the occasion of the 56th passing away anniversary of Muhajir-e-Millat Mufassir-e-Qur’an Mirwaiz Mouulana Muhammad Yusuf Shah (RA), Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Saturday organised a prayer meeting at the historic Central Jama Masjid, Srinagar.

However, the AAC Chairman Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq could not participate due to his continuous detention.

The event was presided over by the renowned religious scholar Moulana Showkat Hussain Keing and participated by many scholars, Naat Khwaans, and intellectuals including Moulana Khursheed Ahmed Qanungo, Engineer Muhammad Afaaq Chishti, Mir Shabir Ahmed, M9ulvi Ghulam Nabi, Moulana M S Rehman Shams and a large number of people, a statement said.

The ceremony commemorated the great sacrifices of the martyrs of Badr and the sincere sacrifices of the expounder of the Mufassir-e-Qur’an Mirwaiz Moulana Yusuf Shah (RA), and paid rich tribute to them, it said.

On the occasion, the participants expressed deep regret and concern over the nearly four-year-long detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, and demanded his immediate release in view of the holy month of Ramadan.

The latest edition of the popular general commentary “Bayan-ul-Furqan” by the late Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah (RA), which was published in two volumes in standard style by Ali Muhammad & Sons, was also released.

A resolution having people’s unanimous support was also passed during the meeting, which is as follows:

This solemn gathering of the Muslims of Kashmir pays glowing tributes to the leading religious and political leader of Jammu & Kashmir, the Mufassir-e-Qur’an, Muhajir-e- Millat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Yusuf Shah (RA) on his 56th passing away anniversary for his all-round, extraordinary and historic sincere services towards the people.

The meeting remarks that the Mufassir-e- Qur’an throughout his life till his last breath made tireless efforts to ensure his people live a dignified life and follow Qur’an and Sunnah, and such contribution is unforgettable. In today’s extremely troubled and serious situation, this gathering reiterates its determination that success and prosperity can only be achieved by following the footsteps of the leadership of the Muhajir-e-Millat.

This gathering raises a strong voice of protest against the illegal and arbitrary detention of the present Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq who has been under house arrest for the last nearly four years. It is extremely sad that for a long period of time in the present history, the minbar and mihrab of the largest place of worship in Kashmir and the great centre of education, guidance and reformation of society – the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar have been kept silent. Due to this, the religious sentiments of the people are being badly hurt and their anxiety and restlessness are increasing day by day.

As a result of the unjustified restrictions on Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s official duties, this gathering feels that a systematic plan is being followed to weaken the Institution of Mirwaiz and keep him away from the people, which is a matter of serious concern and absolutely unacceptable to the public.

This gathering urges the Government of India including the J&K Lieutenant Governor to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir in view of the important occasions of Shab-e-Qadr and Jummat-ul-Vida so that he can perform the centuries-old duty of his ancestors – the Mirwaizeen-e-Kashmir – and also carry out the responsibilities the Institution of Mirwaiz enjoins upon him. — (KNO)
