SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least two militants were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Alshipora village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.
Reports said, a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Alshipora village in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said, as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter, two militants were killed and they have been identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq @ Abrar. The duo were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said, “Abrar was involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit late Sanjay Sharma.”
Sanjay Sharma, a ATM security guard was killed by suspected militants near his residence in Achan village of Pulwama district in February this year. — (KIMS)
