NEW DELHI — In a shocking incident during Wednesday’s Zero Hour, the Lok Sabha experienced a severe security breach as two individuals jumped into the House from the public gallery, carrying what seemed to be tear gas canisters. Chaos erupted as one individual leaped over benches, while the other released a substance, causing confusion among Members of Parliament.
Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury condemned the breach as a “serious security lapse,” emphasizing the significance given the date— the 21st anniversary of the Parliament attack. BSP MP Danish Ali called for an inquiry into how the intruders obtained access and who recommended their passes, with suspicions pointing towards BJP MP Pratap Simha from Mysore.
Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant provided alarming details, describing MPs capturing one individual while the other dispersed yellow smoke from a canister retrieved from his shoes. Outside Parliament, Delhi Police detained two protesters — Neelam from Hissar and Amol Shinde from Latur, but it’s crucial to note that the incident occurred on the road, not within the House.
Expressing concern on X, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi highlighted the breach, stating, “Saw two young men unleash foul-smelling yellow-colored gas from canisters inside Parliament gallery. MPs rushed to grab these men, raising serious questions about security in the new Parliament building.”
The security lapse has prompted heightened concerns, initiating an imminent investigation into the breach, focusing on how the individuals entered the high-security area and accessed the House, casting doubts on the efficacy of existing safety measures.
