Max temp recorded above normal at many stations of Kashmir; dry weather to continue till Jan 20: MeT

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Due to prolonged dry spells, the maximum temperature at many stations of Jammu and Kashmir recorded 6-8°C above normal temperature.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded over Banihal station at 23.4°C on January 11. The previous all time highest maximum temperature was recorded at 22.6°C on January 18, 2003.

The years 2018, 2016 and 2015 with prolonged dry spells also showed similar trends of maximum temperature in the past.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (MeT) on Friday forecast generally dry weather in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir till January 20.

“The weather is expected to remain generally dry in Jammu and Kashmir till January 20,” an official of the Meteorological Department (MeT) said.

“The feeble Western Disturbances are approaching towards Jammu and Kashmir on January 12 and 17 evening. Generally cloudy weather with light snow over isolated higher reaches is expected under the influence of these Western Disturbances,” he said.

“There will be sight improvement in visibility and reduction in dense fog on January 13 in Jammu Division,” he said adding that “the Division is expected to redevelop with cold day conditions from January 13 to 16.”

Meanwhile, the Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar recorded minus 4.0°C, Qazigund minus 4.2°C, Kupwara minus 4.4°C, Gulmarg minus 3.2°C, Pahalgam minus 5.3°C and Kokernag minus 2.4°C as the Minimum temperature in Kashmir region on Friday.

The Winter capital, Jammu recorded 3.7°C, Katra 6.2°C, Batote 4.5°C, Bhaderwah 1.3°C and Banihal minus 0.4°C as the Minimum temperature in Jammu region.

In Ladakh region, Leh recorded minus 14.3°C and Kargil minus 14.8°C as the Minimum temperature. — (KIMS)
