SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced schedule for Assembly Election in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir will witness Assembly Election after 10 years as Assembly Election will be held for the first time since the Abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in August 2019.
The Election will be held in three phases, starting September 18, 2024 and the result will be announced on October 4, 2024.
In first phase, on September 18, the constituencies that will go to polls include Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Kokernag, Anantnag West, Anantnag, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Kishtwar, Doda, Doda West, and Ramban.
In the second phase, on September 24, Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Lal Chowk, Eidgah, Budgam, Khansahib, Chadoora, Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Nowshera, Rajouri, Surankote, Poonch Haveli, and Mendhar among others, will go for polls.
In the third phase, on October 1, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Uri, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Pattan, Bandipora, Gurez, Udhampur West, Udhampur East, Ramnagar, Bilwara, Jasrota, Kathua, Ramgarh, Samba, Jammu East, RS Pura – Jammu South, Nagroat, Jammu West, Jammu North, and Akhnoor among others, will go to polls.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) also announced Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Assembly Election with immediate effect.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Election were conducted in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since the bifurcation of State into two Union Territories in which large number of people participated.
Meanwhile, all the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have welcomed the Election Commission of India’s decision to hold the Assembly Election in the Union Territory. — (KIMS)
