Sarjan Barkati’s daughter seeks release of parents, accuses AIP of not providing support

BUDGAM — The daughter of jailed Sarjan Barkati on Saturday said they had sought support from the Er Rashid-led Awami Ittehad Party but received no assistance to submit her father’s nomination papers for the Langate constituency.

Talking to reporters in Beerwah Main town, Sugra expressed her gratitude to the residents of the Beerwah Assembly Constituency for their huge support following her submission of her father’s nomination as an independent candidate in the area.

“If the government releases my parents, we will refrain from contesting the assembly elections, as our primary goal is to secure their release, which is the reason we are participating in these elections,” she said.

Sugra said during their visit to Langate to file her father’s nomination papers, they reached out to Er Rashid’s party but received no support. “Not even a phone call,” she said. “We were under the impression that Er Rashid’s party would extend their support to us but to no avail.”

Barkati’s daughter said she received communications from several leaders who have assured her of their commitment to provide full support during these assembly elections. — (RK)
