Mountaineering Association of J&K organizes district-level Sport Climbing Competition in Srinagar

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Mountaineering Association of Jammu & Kashmir (MAJK) organized a two-day district-level sport climbing competition at the J&K Tourism Sport Climbing Wall in Nowgam, Srinagar, for four districts of the Kashmir Valley: Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, and Shopian.

The event’s first day saw enthusiastic participation from young athletes across these districts.

The competition aims to promote adventure sports, particularly sport climbing, among the youth of the Kashmir Valley.

Sport climbing, which recently gained attention as an Olympic event, has seen a surge in popularity across Jammu & Kashmir, with local athletes showing great potential on national and international platforms.

The event kicked off with an opening ceremony inaugurated by Nusrat Ghazala, Divisional Sports Officer (Kashmir), along with officials from the J&K Sports Council, the Mountaineering Association, the J&K Tourism Department, and local sports enthusiasts.

The state-of-the-art J&K Tourism Sport Climbing Wall provided an ideal platform for aspiring climbers to test their skills.

Speaking on the occasion, Nusrat Ghazala encouraged participants to engage in sport climbing with enthusiasm and dedication.

Competitors were divided into categories based on age and experience levels, with events ranging from speed climbing to lead climbing.

Each athlete showcased their strength, agility, and technical skills as they tackled challenging routes.

The event not only highlighted the growing interest in sport climbing in Jammu & Kashmir but also underscored the importance of adventure sports in shaping a positive future for the region’s youth. — (KIMS)
