They are in favour of militancy, not democracy: Anurag Thakur slams Mehbooba Mufti’s ‘solidarity’ for Nasrallah

JAMMU — Lashing out at former Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti for cancelling her campaign following the killing of Hezbollah commander Hassan Nasrallah, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Anurag Thakur said that parties like National Conference, People’s Democratic Party and Congress support militancy and not democracy.

Attacking the Opposition parties further, Thakur said that these parties are aware of the situation in Gaza but are unable to see what’s happening with the Hindus in Dhaka.

Speaking to ANI, Anurag Thakur said, “These are the parties that supported separatists, militants and those who were involved in stone-pelting incidents. Parties like JKNC, PDP and Congress support militancy. They are aware of what is happening in Gaza but are unable to see what’s happening with the Hindus in Dhaka.”

“They are unable to see the killings of thousands of people due to militancy. This is very unfortunate that a political party is cancelling its rallies to appease its vote bank. They are in favour of militancy, not democracy,” he added.

This comes after Mufti cancelled her election campaign on Sunday for the third phase of the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir in “solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nasarullah.”

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Minister OP Rajbhar also slammed Mufti’s decision and said Hezbollah is a terror organisation and should be “wiped out.”

“They (Hezbollah) are a terror organisation, they should be destroyed. If they are killed, then it is good because the people who spread anarchy should be wiped out… It is her (PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti) call whom she is standing with. Our call is that if any person is spreading terrorism, they should be wiped out, whichever country it is,” Rajbhar said.

Former J&K Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta also questioned the PDP chief on her ‘silence’ on the “attacks and killings” of Hindus in Bangladesh and said that one should speak on the “lines of humanity.”

“Why does Hassan Nasarullah’s death pain Mehbooba Mufti? When Hindus in Bangladesh are attacked and killed, they are tight-lipped. Today, when the commander of Hezbollah gets killed, they cancel the campaigning for one day. These are crocodile tears and people understand the intent behind this. This kind of conspiracy will lead to nothing; we should speak on the lines of humanity,” he said.

Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti decided to cancel her election campaign for Sunday, stating that she stands with “the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief.”

“Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief and exemplary resistance,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a post on X on Saturday.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon.
