SRINAGAR (KIMS) – The Mountaineering Association of Jammu & Kashmir successfully organized a thrilling sport climbing competition for participants from Anantnag district.
The event took place at the state-of-the-art JK Tourism Sport Climbing Wall in Nowgam, Srinagar, and attracted numerous young climbing enthusiasts.
The competition, aimed at promoting adventure sports and nurturing local talent in mountaineering and climbing, featured participants ranging from beginners to seasoned climbers.
The event was held under the supervision of expert instructors and judges, ensuring adherence to national and international climbing standards.
The event was inaugurated by Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Director of J&K Tourism.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat expressed his delight at the enthusiastic participation, emphasizing that such events are vital for fostering a strong sporting culture in the region.
“We aim to encourage more youth to take up adventure sports and bring laurels to the state,” he said.
The JK Tourism Sport Climbing Wall, an advanced facility for training and competitions, provided the perfect setting for the event.
Several categories, including speed climbing and lead climbing, were held, allowing participants to showcase their skills across different disciplines.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. Syed Muzamil Andrabi, Principal Scientist at RRL Srinagar, attended as the chief guest, while Mahmood Ahmad Shah (KAS), Director of Handicrafts, was the guest of honor.
Outstanding participants in each category were awarded medals, and top performers are likely to be considered for upcoming state-level competitions.
Nearly 70 participants (boys and girls) took part in the championship.
Participants praised the efforts of the Mountaineering Association and JK Tourism for organizing such an inclusive event, which boosted both their physical and mental endurance.
The event, sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, saw a healthy turnout and contributed to the growing popularity of adventure sports in Jammu & Kashmir. — (KIMS)
