Mubarak Gul takes oath as Speaker Protem of J&K Legislative Assembly

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A day after his appointment, Mr. Mubarak Gul took the oath on Saturday as Speaker Protem of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Gul took the oath at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar, in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, cabinet ministers including Sakina Yatoo, Javid Dar, Javed Rana, and Satish Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Adviser to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani were also present during the oath-taking ceremony.

On Friday, the Lieutenant Governor appointed Mr. Mubarak Gul as Speaker Protem of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to administer the oath or affirmation to the Members of the Legislative Assembly, as per Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019.

The oath ceremony for the members will take place in the Legislative Assembly, Srinagar, on October 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM.

In the official order, the LG stated, “Mr. Mubarak Gul is appointed as Speaker Protem to administer the oath/affirmation to the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, on October 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Legislative Assembly, Srinagar.”

The order added that Mr. Gul will also discharge the functions of the Speaker until the election of a permanent Speaker takes place. — (KIMS)
