‘Extremely Painful’: Mirwaiz on killing of six workers, doctor in Ganderbal attack

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent religious cleric, expressed deep sorrow on Monday over the loss of seven lives in a militant attack in the Gagangir area of Sonamarg, in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Condemning the killing of six workers and a doctor at a construction site, Mirwaiz said, “I am deeply saddened by these outrageous killings. It is extremely painful to see precious lives being lost.”

He added, “Islam, like all religions, deplores such inhuman behavior. Every life is precious, and to lose it in this way is heartbreaking.”

In a post on X, he remarked, “This incident is another grim reminder of the unending cycle of violence and uncertainty we have endured for decades.”

Mirwaiz also offered prayers for the victims. “I pray to Allah for the speedy recovery of the injured and for sabr (patience) to the families of those killed.”

Six workers and a doctor were killed in the militant attack in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district on Sunday evening.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from various political and social figures, including J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. — (KIMS)
