Two drug peddlers involved in trafficking of drugs held in Srinagar, property seized

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — While continuing its stringent crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar district of Kashmir valley on Monday for their involvement in the trafficking of drugs and narcotic substances.

“A vehicle (Alto) bearing Registration Number JK01J 7081 was intercepted by a team of Police Station Parimpora during Naka Checking at Barthana Bund with two persons identified as Asif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ab Razaq Sheikh, and Arif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Lateef Ahmad Sheikh — both residents of Babapora Barthana on board. During search, substantial quantity of contraband substances was recovered from their possession,” police said in a statement.

Upon this, a Case FIR No. 136/2024 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Parimpora.

“Both the accused persons have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” the statement said.

“The two accused persons are hard-core drug peddlers engaged in large-scale narcotic trafficking among the youth. Notably, one of the accused persons namely Arif Ahmad Sheikh, has been previously involved in another case FIR No. 34/2023 under sections 8/20, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Parimpora,” the statement said.

“During the course of investigation, it came to fore that the accused person namely Asif Ahmad Sheikh had constructed a double-storeyed house at Babapora Barthana from the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade,” the statement added.

The said property has been seized under the provisions of section 68 of the NDPS Act, with intimation to the competent authority for further legal action. — (KIMS)
