Statehood for J&K Is a promise; Centre must restore it in this Parliament session
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — India, the world’s largest democracy, thrives on the will of the people. The recent assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have demonstrated the people’s overwhelming trust in the National Conference, giving it a strong mandate to govern.
“This democratic verdict must be acknowledged and respected by the central government, ensuring that the elected representatives are allowed to administer the state without undue interference,” National Conference leader Assad Ullah Elahi said in a statement.
“For too long, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have yearned for stable and effective governance. By voting decisively in favor of the National Conference, they have made their choice clear. The essence of democracy lies in respecting the people’s will, and it is now the responsibility of the Union government to honor this mandate. The elected J&K government should be empowered to function independently, addressing the aspirations and concerns of the people without obstacles,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood remains a long-standing promise made on the floor of Parliament. The Centre must fulfill this commitment in the current parliamentary session.
“Statehood is not just a political demand; it is a rightful step toward restoring democratic dignity and autonomy to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. By taking this decision, the central government will reinforce its commitment to democratic values and foster a stronger bond between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country,” he said.
The people of J&K have spoken through their votes. It is now time for the Union government to listen, respect their decision, and restore the full democratic rights that the state deserves. — (KIMS)
