Police solve extortion case in Jammu; accused held, stolen property recovered

JAMMU (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police have solved an extortion case within 24 hours in Jammu district by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen property, including gold and cash.

“Police Post Sarwal, acting swiftly and proactively on a written complaint lodged by Shudhama Sharma, son of Inder Dass Sharma, resident of House No. 230, New Plot, Jammu, regarding an individual who entered his house, threatened his son with a ‘toka,’ and snatched 175 grams of gold jewelry along with ₹2 lakh in cash—having a total worth of ₹20 lakh—recovered the stolen items within 24 hours,” police said in a statement.

“Upon receiving the complaint, FIR No. 17/2025 under Sections 332(c), 308(5), and 351(2) BNS was registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, and an investigation was initiated,” the statement said.

“A special team was constituted by SDPO City West to trace the accused, led by I/C PP Sarwal under the close supervision of SHO Police Station Bakshi Nagar. The team, working persistently with strenuous efforts and analyzing various CCTV footages of the area, finally arrested the accused, identified as Rahul Sharma, son of Kewal Krishan, resident of Ratnal, Bishnah, Jammu,” the statement added.

“During interrogation and further disclosure by the accused, 160 grams of gold jewelry, 200 grams of silver, and ₹1.70 lakh in cash—having a total worth of ₹20 lakh—were recovered. Police also recovered a ‘toka’ from the accused, which was used to threaten the child and extort the stolen items,” the statement concluded. — (KIMS)
