Man accused in ATM card swapping scam arrested in Srinagar: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In a commendable breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police has successfully apprehended an accused involved in an ATM card swapping fraud in Srinagar.

Police Post Bagyas received a written complaint from a lady namely Shaheena W/o of Zahoor Ah Najar R/o Kupwara, stating therein that she along with her daughter, had visited Dental College, Shreen Bagh, for a checkup. While using an ATM located within the complex, an unknown individual inside the booth deceptively swapped her ATM card and subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 from her account.

Acting promptly, a case FIR No. 14/2025 U/S 318(4), 305 BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a team headed by Incharge Police Post Bagyas was constituted.

After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM, it led to the identification of the suspect as Burhan Rah son of Gh Qadir Rah resident of Bonpora, Nowgam.

The accused person has been arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession.

Further investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of the accused peraon in other similar fraudulent activities. More recoveries are expected. — (KIMS)
