SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Ganderbal Police have cracked the murder case of a 14-year-old girl in Batsar Sehpora within hours, arresting her elder sister for the crime.
Police said they received information on August 17 that a girl was lying unconscious in the paddy fields of Batsar Sehpora. A team rushed to the spot and found the minor dead with severe head injuries. Her body was taken for medico-legal formalities.
A case (FIR No. 29/2025 under section 103(1) BNS) was registered at Police Station Kheerbawani, and investigation was taken up.
SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, said a Special Investigation Team was constituted to probe the incident.
“Initially, it was alleged that the deceased had been abducted, but with the help of technical evidence and CCTV footage, the abduction angle was ruled out,” he said.
During questioning, it was found that the victim and her elder sister had gone to the fields, where a minor argument turned into a scuffle. The elder sister allegedly struck her with a wooden rod, killing her on the spot.
“The accused, who is the elder sister of the deceased, confessed to the crime, and the weapon of offence was recovered on her disclosure,” police said.
The accused has been presented before the court, and police said all relevant evidence has been collected in the case. — (KIMS)
