ECI schedules Budgam, Nagrota elections for November 11; Counting on November 14

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the schedule for elections to the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, along with the Bihar Assembly elections.

According to the ECI, polling for the Budgam and Nagrota seats will be held on November 11, alongside voting in a few other states and Union Territories. The counting of votes for these constituencies is scheduled for November 14.

The states and Union Territories that will go to polls along with Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Nagrota seats include Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha.

In the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Omar Abdullah of the National Conference emerged victorious from the Budgam constituency, while Devender Singh Rana of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won from Nagrota. However, both constituencies have since fallen vacant due to separate developments involving the elected representatives.

Omar Abdullah had contested from both Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies, later deciding to retain Ganderbal and vacate the Budgam seat. Meanwhile, the Nagrota constituency fell vacant following the death of its MLA, Devender Singh Rana, on October 31, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase of polling will take place on November 6, while the second phase is scheduled for November 11, alongse with polls in some other states. The counting of votes for Bihar will also be held on November 14. — (KIMS)
