Fresh spell of rain, snow expected in J&K from Jan 16: MeT

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience mainly dry weather conditions till January 15, while a fresh spell of rain and snowfall is expected from January 16 onwards.

The MeT said weather from January 13 to 15 is expected to remain mainly dry, though cloud cover may increase towards the evening of January 15.

It said that minimum temperatures are likely to rise gradually at many places across Jammu and Kashmir from January 15 onwards.

The department also said that moderate fog is expected over the plains of Jammu division, with dense fog at isolated places during the next three days.

According to the MeT, weather from January 16 to 17 is likely to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or snowfall at scattered places across the Jammu and Kashmir.

The department said that January 18 may witness partly to generally cloudy conditions, with the possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.

It said a more active weather spell is expected from January 19 to 21, during which generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain or snowfall are likely at scattered to fairly widespread places. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue from January 22 to 24.

The MeT added that weather conditions are likely to improve from January 25 to 26, with partly cloudy weather expected during the period.

Meanwhile, the summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.9°C, Qazigund minus 5.0°C, Kupwara minus 5.8°C, Kokernag minus 1.6°C, Pahalgam minus 6.2°C and Gulmarg minus 3.5°C on Tuesday.

The winter capital Jammu recorded 3.8°C, Katra 6.2°C, Batote 4.1°C, Banihal 8.9°C and Bhaderwah minus 0.2°C.

In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 11.6°C and Kargil minus 10.2°C as the minimum temperature.— (KIMS)
