SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday said that an FIR has been registered and an accused arrested in connection with the assault on an 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller in the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand.
In a statement, JKSA said the matter was taken up at the highest level with Deepam Seth, the DGP of Uttarakhand, who assured that authorities had taken a strong and serious note of the incident.
The association said an FIR bearing No. 26/2026 has been registered at Vikas Nagar Police Station against Sanjay Yadav and one other individual under Sections 117(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
It said the accused, Sanjay Yadav, has been taken into custody and legal proceedings are currently underway.
JKSA said the DGP further assured that the strongest possible action would be taken to prevent communal intimidation and to safeguard the rights, dignity and safety of Kashmiri students and citizens.
Calling the police action a welcome first step, the association, however, stressed that accountability must be time-bound, transparent and exemplary.
It said acts of communal profiling, mob violence and intimidation against vulnerable communities; especially those earning an honest and dignified livelihood cannot be allowed to become routine. — (KIMS)
