JAMMU — Congress MLAs Irfan Hafiz Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed on Thursday staged a protest in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly complex over the alleged harassment of Kashmiris outside the Union Territory, demanding an immediate halt to such incidents.
Carrying placards reading “Stop harassment of Kashmiris”, the two MLAs held the protest on the stairs of the Assembly and were joined by MLAs from Rajouri.
Referring to the alleged harassment of Kashmiri nursing students at a university in Rajasthan, Lone and Ahmed said they would raise the issue in the House.
They alleged the students were assaulted during a protest over course recognition, leaving four injured, and claimed that a female student was also manhandled.
The Congress legislators sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging them to ensure the safety of Kashmiris and prevent such incidents in future. — (PTI)
