JAMMU (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said they have arrested a wanted criminal and recovered a commercial quantity of heroin-like substance along with an illegal pistol and live ammunition from his possession in the Bahu Fort area of the Jammu city.
According to a police statement, a team from Police Station Bahu Fort was conducting naka checking near Railway Pul Narwal on the Narwal–Panama Chowk road at around 12:30 am on May 12, 2026 when a suspicious person attempted to evade the naka after noticing the police party.
During checking and personal search, police recovered a Glock pistol loaded with three live rounds and approximately 266.35 grams of heroin-like substance, commonly known as “Chitta”, including polythene packets, from his possession.
The accused was identified as Avneet Singh alias Nagi, son of Vikram Singh, resident of Sundarpur, R.S. Pura, Jammu.
Police said the accused failed to produce any valid licence or satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the recovered contraband and illegal firearm.
Accordingly, FIR No. 111/2026 under Sections 8/21/22/27-A of the NDPS Act and 3/25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation has been taken up.
Police said the accused is involved in 17 criminal cases related to the NDPS Act, Arms Act and other heinous offences registered in R.S. Pura, Gharota, Miran Sahib, Satwari, Ramgarh and Dinanagar Pathankot police stations.
The statement further said that during an earlier special naka in Miran Sahib, one of his associates identified as Jaanu had sustained injuries while attempting to flee from the spot.
Police described the arrest as a major breakthrough in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and illegal weapons.
Police reiterated its commitment towards curbing drug trafficking and illegal activities in Jammu and appealed to the public to share information regarding suspicious activities in their areas. — (KIMS)
