Woman booked under PSA in Baramulla, lodged in Bhaderwah Jail

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said they have executed a detention warrant under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978, against a woman allegedly involved in multiple cases related to unlawful and anti-national activities in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

According to a police statement, the detention warrant was executed against Haseena Begum, wife of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, resident of Sheeri, Tehsil Narvaw in Baramulla district.

Police said the detention order was issued by the District Magistrate Baramulla vide Order No. 07/DMB/PSA/2026 dated May 30, 2026, following an assessment of her alleged involvement in activities prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory.

The detenue was found involved in multiple criminal cases registered under various provisions of law, including offences related to unlawful and anti-national activities, the statement said.

These include FIR No. 281/2019 registered at Police Station Handwara under Sections 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 153-A and 506 RPC; FIR No. 58/2021 of Police Station Handwara under Sections 426 IPC, 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Section 3 of the Sabotage Act; FIR No. 151/2021 of Police Station Bandipora under Sections 13, 23 and 39 of the UAPA and 506 IPC; and FIR No. 58/2022 of Police Station Sopore under Sections 436 and 307 IPC.

Police said investigations in these cases revealed her alleged association with anti-national elements and involvement in activities aimed at disturbing public order and security.

Following execution of the PSA warrant, the woman was taken into preventive custody and subsequently lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah under adequate security arrangements, the statement added. — (KIMS)
