JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said they detained a hardcore criminal under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the R.S. Pura area of Jammu district.
According to a police statement, the detention was carried out by Police Station R.S. Pura following the execution of a PSA warrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, vide Order No. 10 of 2026 dated July 9, 2026.
The accused has been identified as Karan Kumar alias Anil alias Nandi, son of Balwant Raj, a resident of Ward No. 9, Chohala, R.S. Pura, Jammu.
The statement said a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station R.S. Pura, under the supervision of the SDPO R.S. Pura and overall supervision of the SP Headquarters, Jammu, conducted raids at suspected locations before apprehending the accused and executing the detention warrant.
Following his detention, the accused was lodged in District Jail, Rajouri.
Police said the detenue is a notorious and habitual offender with a history of involvement in serious criminal activities, including attempt to murder, illegal possession of sharp-edged weapons, snatching and maintaining close associations with other criminals operating in the area.
A total of five criminal cases have been registered against him at different police stations, the statement said. — (KIMS)
