CM leaves Delhi for Jammu to monitor flash flood situation

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said he is leaving Delhi for Jammu to personally monitor the situation on the ground in view of the weather warning issued by the Meteorological Department and the heavy rainfall affecting parts of the Jammu division.

In a post on X, Omar Abdullah said that despite his departure for Jammu, the National Conference’s scheduled protest demanding the restoration of statehood would go ahead as planned under the leadership of party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

The Chief Minister said he has been closely monitoring the situation since early Sunday morning following extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu, particularly Rajouri town and its surrounding areas.

He said he has been in constant touch with the local MLAs from the affected region as the situation continues to unfold.

Abdullah said the administration’s foremost priority is to safeguard human lives and assured that the government would make every possible effort to provide relief and assistance to people affected by the heavy rains and flash floods, including those who have suffered damage to their property.

The Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities closely monitoring the situation amid reports of heavy rainfall and flash floods in several areas. — (KIMS)
