Amarnath Yatra via Pahalgam route to remain temporarily suspended for repairs

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Amarnath Yatra will continue through the Baltal route, while the Pahalgam route will remain temporarily closed to facilitate urgent repair and maintenance works following recent rainfall, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said on Saturday.

The Divisional Commissioner said the recent spell of rain has damaged sections of the Pahalgam route, necessitating immediate repair and restoration works to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

“Due to the recent rains, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the Pahalgam axis of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra. The Yatra shall continue through the Baltal axis, for which adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage,” Garg said.

He said comprehensive arrangements have been made along the Baltal route to ensure the uninterrupted, safe and smooth movement of pilgrims during the temporary closure of the Pahalgam axis.

According to the Divisional Commissioner, more than 3.95 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine during this year’s Yatra, reflecting its peaceful and successful conduct so far. — (KIMS)
