BJP suspends nine Anantnag office bearers over anti-women slogans at Tiranga rally

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Anantnag district unit on Friday suspended the primary membership of nine party office bearers and removed them from all organisational posts with immediate effect for allegedly organising and participating in an unauthorised Tiranga rally held at Khanabal in Anantnag on August 5.

According to an office order issued by BJP District President Anantnag, Rakesh Koul, the rally held at Housing Colony Khanabal was neither organised nor authorised by the BJP District Unit, Anantnag, nor had it obtained the requisite permission from the district administration.

The order also stated that the district unit has taken serious note of the alleged objectionable and derogatory remarks (Maklow Azi Hund Te Fazi Hund Azat) made against women during the rally, describing such conduct as unacceptable and against the values, discipline, dignity and principles of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The disciplinary action was taken after deliberations with BJP J&K State General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, State General Secretary Anwar Khan, State Spokesperson and Prabhari Anantnag Altaf Thakur, along with the BJP District Core Committee, Anantnag.

The suspended office bearers have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat (District General Secretary), Khursheed Ahmad Sofi (District Secretary), Aabida Rafiq (District Secretary), Irshad Ahmad Malik (Constituency President, Shangus), Mohd Maqbool Ganie (Former District Vice President), Waheed Ahmad Itoo (Constituency President, Pahalgam), Nisar Ahmad Hakeem (District Secretary), Feroz Ahmad Hajam (District Secretary, Kisan Morcha) and Sabrooza Akhter (District Secretary, Mahila Morcha).

The order said all nine have been removed from their party posts and responsibilities with immediate effect, while their primary membership has been suspended until further orders pending further inquiry.

The BJP district unit also clarified that Alveer Ahmad Dar of Batengoo Anantnag and Fancy Akhter of Hangulgund Kokernag are not associated with the BJP District Unit Anantnag in any capacity and do not hold any organisational post or responsibility in the party. — (KIMS)
