SRINAGAR — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped and arrested two police officers for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in connection with a case registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar.
According to the ACB, a written complaint was received alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, had demanded illegal gratification through his alleged accomplice, Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat, for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The ACB said verification of the allegations prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification. Subsequently, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team allegedly caught Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 on behalf of PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant.
The bribe amount was recovered from Bhat in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was taken into custody in accordance with law. His alleged co-conspirator, PSI Karanjeet Singh, was subsequently arrested by the ACB.
