SHOPIAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have recovered illegally felled forest timber and firewood during a patrolling operation in the Keller area, officials said on Tuesday.
A police party from Police Station Keller was conducting routine patrolling along the Nasarpora–Mukum-i-Dunaroo axis when it recovered approximately 17 square feet of illicit forest timber along with two quintals of firewood, police said.
According to police, the persons allegedly involved in the illegal activity fled from the spot after noticing the police party.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the recovered timber and firewood had allegedly been illegally felled from Forest Compartment No. RB-31 in Mukum-i-Dunaroo. Police identified the suspects as Mohd. Youqab Kalass, son of Karam Din Kalass, and Azim Poswal, son of Nazir Ahmad Poswal, both residents of Mukum-i-Dunaroo, Keller.
Police said FIR No. 94/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation is underway. — (KIMS)
