JAMMU — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹5,000 bribe at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Talib Hussain, was serving as the investigating officer in a case and allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant in exchange for presenting a charge sheet (challan) against the accused persons before a court.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification and confirmed the alleged demand. A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was subsequently constituted.
During the trap operation, Hussain was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹5,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.
A case under FIR No. 08/2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered at ACB Police Station Udhampur.
Further investigation is underway. The ACB said the operation was its second successful trap at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district in 2026. — (KIMS)
