Police trace, return 50 missing mobile phones in Samba

SAMBA — Police in Samba have recovered 50 lost and missing mobile phones worth around ₹8.65 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners, officials said on Saturday.

The recovered phones were traced from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir and other locations through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, following complaints lodged by citizens, they said.

Police said a systematic tracking process was initiated after the phones were reported missing, leading to their recovery and subsequent verification before being handed over to the owners at a function held at the District Police Headquarters, Samba.

The recipients expressed gratitude to the police for their efforts in tracing and recovering the devices.

SSP Samba advised citizens to keep a record of their mobile phone IMEI numbers and promptly report lost or missing devices through the CEIR portal to facilitate blocking, tracking and recovery. — (KIMS)
