SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir government has outlined a series of initiatives to strengthen tourism infrastructure and promote new destinations across the Union Territory, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in the Legislative Assembly.
Replying to questions in his capacity as Minister in charge of Tourism, Abdullah said Patnitop has been proposed for consideration under the Government of India’s Globally Competitive Tourism Destination Scheme. The revision of the Master Plan for the Patnitop Development Authority has also been initiated.
For the pilgrimage centres of Purmandal and Utterbehni, tourism infrastructure has been upgraded under the Pilgrimage Circuit Plan. A proposal worth ₹45.88 crore has also been formulated under the PRASHAD Scheme for riverfront development, drinking water facilities, steel bridges and sewage treatment plants.
In Kupwara district, planned tourism infrastructure development is being undertaken at destinations including Bungus, Sadhna Pass, Keran and Lolab.
The government is also ensuring that tourism development in eco-fragile areas such as Bungus is carried out while safeguarding the natural environment and preserving local heritage, the Chief Minister said. — (KIMS)
