SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly about several measures being taken to promote sustainable and planned urban development across the Union Territory.
As Minister-in-charge of Housing and Urban Development, Abdullah said the ₹361 crore Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Achan in Srinagar has been approved and is currently at the tendering stage.
The project will have a processing capacity of 800 tonnes per day and a design horizon of 25 years, aimed at strengthening urban sanitation and solid waste management in the city.
The Chief Minister also highlighted progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 1.0 and 2.0, particularly in District Samba, where affordable housing initiatives are being implemented.
He further said the government has introduced a series of urban reforms, including updated Unified Building Bye-Laws, Transit-Oriented Development provisions and a new Parking Policy.
The reforms also include AutoDCR-based building permission systems and GIS-integrated approvals for change of land use, aimed at making urban planning and regulatory processes more efficient and transparent. — (KIMS)
