SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested five alleged drug peddlers and recovered various contraband substances during separate operations in Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts, officials said on Monday.
In Shopian, police during naka checking at Matipora Bridge intercepted Feroz Ahmad Wani, a resident of Batamuran. A search of his nylon bag led to the recovery of around 13.264 kg of a ganja-like substance, while four grams of a charas-like substance was also recovered during his personal search.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller in connection with the seizure.
In Kulgam, police intercepted a Tavera vehicle at Shampora Crossing on the Qazigund NH and recovered 10 grams of a heroin-like substance from a bag kept in the dashboard drawer. The driver, identified as Asif Shafi Bhat of Budgam, was arrested and a case under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund.
In a separate operation at Khandipairi, police arrested Ali, a resident of Delhi presently living in Bijbehara, and recovered six grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession. A case was registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
Meanwhile, in Anantnag, police from Police Station Janglatmandi arrested Aamir Yousuf Khan alias Vicky Gadar of Hazratbal and recovered 7.68 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
In another case, police from Police Post GBS arrested Tariq Ahmad Khanday of Aung during naka checking at Aung Bridge and recovered 10 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
Police said investigations have been initiated in all the cases to establish the source of the recovered substances and trace their forward and backward linkages. — (KIMS)
