EOW files two chargesheets against J&K man in fraud, impersonation cases

SRINAGAR — The EOW wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has filed two chargesheets against a person accused of fraud and impersonation, a spokesperson of the probe agency said on Sunday.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) submitted the chargesheets before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, against Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Kupwara district in separate cases involving allegations of cheating, impersonation, forgery and fraudulent collection of money from job aspirants.

In one of the cases, Mir is accused of cheating another person of Rs 2.10 lakh on the pretext of providing employment and furnishing a fake and forged appointment order purportedly issued by the Airport Authority of India.

In another case, the investigation established that the accused allegedly claimed to be a duty officer attached to the Jammu and Kashmir LG’s office, promising government jobs and land at SDA Colony, Bemina, the spokesperson said.

He said the accused allegedly collected around Rs 60 lakh and provided fake appointment and land-allotment letters.

The chargesheets have been filed before the court for judicial determination, he said, adding that Mir is involved in 15 separate criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley. — (PTI)
