SAMBA — Samba Police on Monday cracked the Jakh murder case within hours of the incident with the arrest of the main accused and recovery of the weapon of offence, officials said.
The case was registered at Police Station Vijaypur under FIR No. 163/2026 under Sections 103 of the BNS and 3/27 of the Arms Act.
According to police, an information about a firing incident near the Power House at Jakh was received at around 5:40 pm on October 5, following which a police team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.
During the incident, Atish Sharma alias Attu, son of Omkar Nath and a resident of Jakh, Vijaypur, sustained firearm injuries and died at the spot, police said.
During the investigation, police identified Nikhil Sharma, son of Bawa Ditta and a resident of Jakh Bagla Rajinderpura, Vijaypur, as the main accused. He allegedly fired at Atish following a land dispute, they said.
Acting swiftly, a police team from Police Station Vijaypur arrested Nikhil Sharma within hours of the incident. During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed his involvement in the crime.
Based on his disclosure, police recovered the pistol allegedly used in the offence in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and seized it as per the prescribed procedure.
Further investigation is underway to establish all facts and circumstances surrounding the case. — (KIMS)
