SRINAGAR — Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi will resign from the National Conference (NC) and his Lok Sabha seat on November 3, the Office of the MP announced on Friday.
In a post on X, the Office of Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said he would announce his decision while addressing people at Behisht-e-Zehra Park in Budgam on the death anniversary of Martyr Aga Syed Mehdi.
The statement accused the National Conference leadership of treating Jammu and Kashmir as a family estate and betraying the promises made to people ahead of elections.
It said the party had sought votes on promises including the restoration of Article 370, the release of prisoners and protection of people’s rights, but failed to fulfil those commitments after coming to power.
“We refuse to lend our name to this humiliation. There is no fixing this rot from within,” the statement said.
It added that the Lok Sabha seat was won on promises made to the people and that Ruhullah Mehdi would surrender it rather than become an accomplice to their betrayal.
The Office also invited people to attend his address at Behisht-e-Zehra Park, Budgam, on November 3. — (KIMS)
