JAMMU — The Jammu Division of Northern Railway realised Rs 81.38 lakh in fines and fares from over 9,500 passengers caught travelling without valid tickets or with irregular tickets during an intensive month-long checking drive in October, an official said on Sunday.

The surprise checking operations were conducted at major stations, including Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan and Pathankot Cantt, as well as in trains and on platforms across the division from October 1 to 31, a spokesperson of the Jammu division said.

He said that a total of 9,564 cases of ticketless and irregular travel were detected during the month-long drive, generating approximately Rs 81,38,495 in revenue for the Railways through fares and penalties.

Highlighting the objectives and success of the drive, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the Jammu Division is committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and high-quality travel experience for passengers.

He said strict action against passengers travelling without valid tickets or holding irregular tickets would continue, adding that the drive aims not only to boost railway revenue but also to safeguard the rights of genuine passengers who purchase valid tickets and abide by railway rules. — (PTI)
