Meet Yasmeen Khan, Young and energetic social activist from Srinagar

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Yasmeen Khan, one of the young and energetic social activist from Zakura, Hazratbal area of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is working on various social issues particularly for the welfare of women and well-being of youth in Kashmir valley.

Besides she has worked on issues related women such as domestic violence, dowry, women hygiene, women health, women education etc. by running a campaigns on social media.

Yasmeen has worked in Covid Relief Distribution in Kashmir valley last year during the pandemic in collaboration with Kashmir Welfare Trust. She has also worked on mental health of youth and environment issues in Kashmir valley.

She is presently working as Station Head at Radio DPS, a radio station of Delhi Public School where she gives training to budding Radio Jockey (RJ)’s. She also trains students in script writing, event organising, proof reading etc. so that they can easily take any projects and make decisions.

Yasmeen after completing her schooling from R. P. School in Malla Bagh Srinagar went to New Delhi where she did Masters in Mass Communication from Jamia Milia Islamia University.

She is also a journalist and has worked as Sub-Editor at Delhi Based Muslim Mirror and Reporter at Jammu and Kashmir’s leading newspaper Greater Kashmir.

While sharing experiences with Kashmir Independent Media Service – KIMS Yasmeen said, “She ran campaigns on social media on issues such as mental health, depression, women health, women rights etc. to guide and aware people,” adding, “My primary focus is to work for welfare of women, their rights, health, hygiene and other issues.”

She further said, “Recently she started to visit trekking sites where she used to collect polythene to keep the surrounding and environment clean.”

“My best experience regarding my work is that I have helped a family to build a house and during Covid-19 pandemic last year I helped many people who were in need by giving them essential items after their receiving calls,” she said while sharing about her best work experiences to Kashmir Independent Media Service – KIMS.

When Kashmir Independent Media Service – KIMS asked about future plans, Yasmeen said, “My aim is to work for the welfare of women and I will start a forum in future where i can help women who are facing domestic violence, also i will aware women about their health, hygiene, education etc.” — (KIMS)
