ACB Initiates Probe into misappropriation, use of substandard materials in Srinagar Smart City Project

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has launched two preliminary enquiries into alleged irregularities and malpractice linked to the Srinagar Smart City project.

In the first case, the ACB registered Preliminary Enquiry (PE) No. 01/2025 at the Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau Srinagar, following credible inputs about the misappropriation of materials such as Devari Stones, Path Tiles, and Iron Grills.

“These materials, intended for the city’s revamp and beautification under the Srinagar Smart City Ltd. project, were allegedly either unaccounted for or sold in the open market for personal gain,” theACB said in a statement.

“Instead of being properly recorded and retained in the stores of the concerned Engineering Division, the materials appear to have been misused,” the statement said.

In the second enquiry, registered as PE No. 02/2025, the ACB is probing the alleged use of substandard materials in development works at Foreshore Road Nishat.

“The scope of the investigation includes the construction of cycle tracks, footpaths facing Dal Lake, and viewing decks from Nishat to Naseem Bagh PHC,” the statement said.

“The deliberate avoidance of mandatory procedures by officials of Srinagar Smart City Ltd. in connivance with contractors, resulting in compromised work quality,” the statement added.

The probe of both preliminary enquiries is in progress. — (KIMS)
